Carbon dioxide held at or above its critical temperature and pressure in a fluid state. Like all supercritical fluids, its properties are intermediate between those of gases and liquids. Supercritical carbon dioxide has numerous applications as a cleaning, protecting, and consolidating agent in the conservation of materials such as paper, waterlogged wood, stone, and deteriorated textiles.
