Alkane

A member of the series of saturated hydrocarbons with the general chemical formula CnH2n+2, where "n" is a whole number. Though generally nonreactive, they combust readily and many important fuels are alkanes, such as methane and butane, or mixtures of alkanes such as gasoline.
