Descripción

Tools having a shaped tip at one end and a blunt butt end at the other, which is usually struck by a hammer. They are used by applying repeated sudden impact or by continuous pressure to make indentations, pricks, or sometimes perforations in various materials. They are usually in the form of a steel rod with an end that may take a variety of shapes used for marking, blanking, decoration, driving in nails, enlarging an existing hole. An example of the application of punches is in medieval altarpieces.
