Descripción
Describes the artwork created by the inhabitants of the Bougainville Islands. The people of Bougainville represent human and animal forms in naturalistic proportions and features, however human heads are also constructed in a canine-like style with the jaw protruded outward. Surfaces are often stained black and enhanced with inlaid patterns of red and white pigments. Decorative features in ceremonial structures are well known for demonstrating excellent carving techniques.
