Refers to the works of a group of photographer working in Western Europe in the 1950's who were influenced by the teaching of Professer Otto Steinert. Emphasizing experimentation and the creative impulses of the photographer, the style is characterized by the subordination of the subject matter and an emphasis on pattern and form, in a manner akin to graphic art.
