Cyanobacteria

Any of a large and varied group of prokaryotic, usually photosynthetic, microorganisms that contain (blue) photocyanin and (green) chlorophyll. They closely resemble eukaryotic algae in many respects, leading to past misidentification as such and to the common name of blue-green algae.
