Blocking

Marking the surface of an object by pressing onto it, by means of a machine such as a printing press, a block, plate, or frame containing the elements that make up the printing surface, often having a raised design. In bookbinding, distinguished from "stamping (marking)", in which a hand tool is used instead of a machine.
