Taxonomy (discipline)

The systematic distinguishing, classifying, and naming of type groups of organisms, objects, and phenomena within a subject field, especially as applied in biology to living and extinct animals and plants. Also refers to the study of the theory, rules, and methods of systematic classification and nomenclature per se.
