A durable, dyable nylon fiber formed from hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid. Nylon 6,6 was developed at DuPont in 1935. It is very similar in structure to nylon 6, a rival product created ny I.G. Farbenindustrie four years later, and the two types of polyamide fiber remain the most commonly used by the textile and plastics industries worldwide.
