Phylum of aquatic invertebrates typically having a simple tube-shaped or cup-shaped body, which includes sea anemones, hydras, jellyfish, and corals. There are over 9000 species living today. More or less radially symmetrical marine invertebrates having a single internal cavity serving for digestion, excretion, and other functions, and usually a circle of tentacles around the mouth for catching prey, some provided with paralyzing stings.
